Samuel Matthew Patterson was born on October 14 at 8:07am! He was 20 1/2 inches long and weighed 8 lbs 7 ozs. Jonathan was so flexible with the craziness of the day and was so sweet with Samuel. Everything was so perfect on the day he was born and I praise God for answering all of my prayers and easing my anxiety about everything!
Day 2 was a little different however...Jonathan woke up with a fever so JP took him to the doctor (who had just been at the hospital with us, ironic) and we were told he couldn't come to the hospital until he was fever free for 24 hrs. It was quite dramatic because that was the first day of Jonathan's life that I had not seen him AND he was sick! :( Everyone knows you just want your momma when you're sick! Jonathan was fine I'm sure, but it was lunch before I quit crying. (I blame crazy hormones for this too!) I thought we'd have a little bit of time before we'd get thrown into the world of 2 children needing you at the same time, but I was wrong! God was definitely in control though and taught me (again) that he loves my family even more than I do, and will take care of them even when my control-loving self cannot.
Everything worked out fine (of course). Jonathan woke up cool as a cucumber the next morning and came to see us, and I feel like I was able to relax and bond with Samuel more than I would have if big brother would have been there. We're all home now with grandparents here for a few weeks helping (I can't pick Jonathan up for at least 2 weeks because of the c-section). Samuel is sleeping pretty well and mostly just wakes up to eat every 3 hrs or so. He seems pretty laid back in our 10 days of knowing him :) and although you can tell they are brothers, he definitely has a different look than Jonathan. We're just so happy to have another little boy in our house!
Jonathan is such a sweet big brother! He says "baby" over and over when he cries and can say Samuel, but sounds a little like "Shamu"! :) He will give him hugs and kisses and loves pointing and saying "hair," "eyes," and "ears." It's very sweet! I know it will be an adjustment for everyone, but so far so good!
